Asghar Ali Gill has been elected vice-chairman of the Punjab Bar Council (PBC) for the year 2005. Asghar Ali Gill bagged 39 votes, while his rival candidate Arif Alvi got 36 votes. Tahir Mehmood Mufti has been elected chairman executive council PBC by securing 40 votes. He defeated Zafar Mehmood Mughal, who got 35 votes. Advocate General, Punjab, Akhtar Iqbal acted as Election Commissioner.

It may be mentioned that after an amendment in the Legal Practitioners and Bar Council Act 1973, the number of elected members of the PBC have been curtailed to 75 from the previous 101.
